Why do people send memos?

  • To give information (e.g. about events, activities, changes)

  • To ask for information (e.g.g preferred holiday dates)

  • To give instructions or remind people to také action (e.g. new procedures)

  • To make recommendations (e.g.g to buy new equipment; how to solve a problém)

  • To send a report or summary, notes rom a meeting, etc.

Layout

When writing memos, you should follow the standard format.

  • name of person/people who will receive the memo

  • name of person/people sending the memo

  • the subject of the memo

  • date

  • no opening is necessary

  • main message

  • action or recommendation

  • name or initials of the person sending the memo, but this is not necessary

  • no closing
